Capacity Building
SIG is committed to formalizing our partnerships with community
service providers and consumers in carrying out research and in
generating plans for future research projects with the community
collaboration core. Community service providers and consumers provide
ongoing feedback and consultation on all aspects of designing and
implementing research, including: the overall study design, measurement,
interventions, recruitment and engagement strategies, human subjects
and consent procedures, training of facilitators, quality assurance,
dissemination plans, translation of key study findings into practice
and planning next steps for future research. The extensive involvement
of community service providers and consumers from the inception
to the completion of studies helps to ensure a more seamless transition
between research and practice. Furthermore, SIG seeks
to extend its role in building the capacity of community providers
to conduct evaluation research and write competitive grants. SIG
also aims to expand its efforts to translate SIG findings into
practitioner and consumer friendly literature and to bring effective
interventions to “real world” community settings where
they can be applied.
